“Magnolia” is many, many (many) things, but first and foremost it’s a movie about people who're fighting to live above their pain — a theme that not only runs through all nine parts of this story, but also bleeds through Paul Thomas Anderson’s career. There’s John C. Reilly as Officer Jim Kurring, who’s correctly cast himself because the hero and narrator of a non-existent cop show in order to give voice into the things he can’t acknowledge. There’s Jimmy Gator, the dying game show host who’s haunted by all of the ways he’s failed his daughter (he’s played from the late Philip Baker Hall in one of many most affectingly human performances you’ll ever see).

“Deep Cover” is many things at once, including a quasi-male love story between Russell and David, a heated denunciation of capitalism and American imperialism, and ultimately a bitter critique of policing’s effect on Black cops once Russell begins resorting to murderous underworld ways. At its core, however, Duke’s exquisitely neon-lit film — a hard-boiled genre picture that’s carried by a banging hip-hop soundtrack, sees criminality in both the shadows and the Solar, and keeps its unerring gaze focused about the intersection between noir and Blackness — is about the duality of identity more than anything else.

The premise alone is terrifying: Two 12-year-aged boys get abducted in broad daylight, tied up and taken to some creepy, remote house. If you’re a boy mom—as I am, of the son around the same age—that may well just be enough in your case, and you simply won’t to know any more about “The Boy Behind the Door.”

Charbonier and Powell accomplish a good deal with a little, making the most of their minimal spending plan and single area and exploring every square foot of it for maximum tension. They establish a foreboding mood early, and effectively tell us just enough about these Youngsters and their friendship to make the best way they fight for each other feel not just plausible but substantial.

There are profound thoughts and concepts handed out, but it's never prepared over the nose--it's subtle enough to avoid that trap. Some scenes are just Fantastic. Like the just one in school when Yoo Han is trying to convince Yeon Woo by talking about shade theory and showing him the colour chart.

Assayas has defined the central question of “Irma Vep” as “How could you go back to your original, virginal strength of cinema?,” but the film that concern prompted him to make is only so rewarding because the solutions it provides all manage to contradict each other. They ultimately flicker together in on the list of greatest endings of the 10 years, as Vidal deconstructs his dailies into a violent barrage of semi-structuralist doodles that would be meaningless hard porn Otherwise for the way perfectly they indicate Vidal’s achievement at creating a cinema that is shaped — but not owned — with the earlier. The twists with the plot are as absurd as they are troubling: A single part finds Marko, a rising leader during the communist party, shaving minutes off the clock each day so that the people he keeps hidden believe the most new war ended more lately than it did, and will therefore be inspired to manufacture ammunition for him in a faster rate.
